Unilabs is a global diagnostics provider, one of the largest diagnostic providers in Europe, and the only provider to offer laboratory, radiology, pathology, Genetics and Pharma within one Group.
Our History
Founded in 1987 as three diagnostic laboratories in Switzerland, Unilabs has grown rapidly ever since, following a strategy of acquiring high-quality partner laboratories across Europe. In 2007, Unilabs merged with major imaging diagnostics company Capio, whose reach encompassed Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and the UK. This merger positioned Unilabs as the undisputed European leader in diagnostics.
We have continued to grow our business, and our portfolio of cutting-edge diagnostic services, moving from a European business to a worldwide operator, and establishing new offerings in genetic medicine and pathology.
1987-1990
Establishment
Unilabs is founded in 1987 through takeover of three Swiss labs previously owned by US-based Corning. Unilabs acquires a lab in Italy and three labs in Spain
1991-1997
First Central Lab
Unilabs acquires two more labs in Switzerland and creates the first Central Lab, servicing four private and two public hospitals
1998-2006
Further European expansion
After its 1997 IPO, Unilabs enters France and Portugal and makes further acquisitions in Italy. National consolidation continues in Switzerland.
2007-2014
Transformational deal
Merger with Capio Diagnostics creates a leading pan-European diagnostics company. Acquisitions in France, Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden and UK.
2014-2021
Becoming the European Leader
Unilabs becomes the European Leader in Integrated Diagnostic Services. In 2017 Apax Funds ownership accelerates Unilabs' organic growth.
2022-Today
Sailing towards the future
Unilabs is acquired by A.P Moller Holding with agreement of majority owner, Apax Partners. Unilabs is now part of Denmark's A.P Moller Holding, founded and run by the Maersk family.
