The Quest for Innovation: The Latest Trends in Imaging and Radiotherapy

Faithful to its goal to be as creative, inventive, caring, and purpose-driven as the people who work there, TMC - Unilabs’ teleradiology arm – has sponsored the second report by the British Institute of Radiology and the BIR World Partner Network.

The British Institute of Radiology is the international organisation for everyone working in imaging, radiation oncology and the underlying sciences. It supports the work of its members to achieve professional excellence, it provides continuing professional development for the multidisciplinary community, it connects with the wider sector, and it publishes research.

The BIR World Partner Network is a community of international societies with the shared goal of advancing the knowledge and interests of all its members. The ultimate aim is to improve the scope and value of imaging and radiation oncology for patients across the world.

In their latest publication – “Global Innovations in Imaging and Radiotherapy: A More Connected World” – radiologists, radiographers, scientists, and other healthcare specialists across the world share their insights on how Covid-19 has changed their way of working.

They focus on the plight of hard-to-reach communities and how radiologists, radiographers, scientists, and others are using their ingenuity to bring services to people in remote areas, enabling professionals to work together effectively using technology.

“We are honoured to sponsor this research that shows how the best minds in our field come together to innovate and build new ways to improve people’s lives,” says Henrik Agrell, TMC’s CEO.

Key issues highlighted by the report include the importance of screening, the implementation of supervised training programmes for non-radiographic staff, digital learning to support professionals working in remote areas, satellite radiotherapy centres and mobile clinics, digital health technology, teleradiology services, the importance of working closely with the World Health Organisation, government-funded fellowship training, and incentive schemes to work in remote areas.
